Unlock the doors to space, time and more happiness

Until a few years ago , there was no such thing as a blog.   Now it's de rigeur.      Used to be that we wrote about experiences just to understand them.   Now we blog so that not only can we understand them but others can enjoy the process too.      A 360. Degree turnaround.    We have unlocked the blog!!!

In this blog I want to look at what it means to unlock our views about our home and how it can help a clutter clear happen,  progress and complete.

First let's look at what is locked up.

Well it's those cupboards of stuff that is just put there because there is nowhere else to put them.   It's the piles of stuff that never gets sorted, it's the detritus that builds up as there seems like nowhere for it all to go.

And in our thinking?

Current views  based on historical ideas.    We always put our t shirts in a pile - one on top of the other. Have you thought about rolling them so you can see them all?

Doing things the way we always do.  Statistically it's shown that we wear twenty per cent of our wardrobe. Be part of the solution and wear the other 80 per cent!!!

Patterns  of behaviour we have  without even thinking.   What we see as Unconscious competence.    But it might just be holding us back as what was great a few years ago might not be what we need now.  Holding onto the paperwork around a piece of work we did five years ago just in case we need it again - do we need it all?   Probably not.   We might want to lift some of our inspired ideas and keep them handy but we don't need to keep the entire output of our lives.    As a PR Executive, my first few press releases - I keep.  I was very proud of them!   I got the client into print - hurrah! But I don’t have every letter I wrote or received. Choice ones, yes - they give me joy.

Viewing the world through a particular lens - perhaps I don't need to wear black all the time - how about pink or yellow? How about putting different colours together and seeing how we feel. Different numbers of colours together.

So how else can we change?

These are examples of how we can shift.   I have developed a great system which makes sorting one's belongings so easy.  I have 9 protocols that i have developed based on my experiences and my training. Time and again I find people who have put off the job of decluttering, embrace it and take great strides towards a new life.

And here is another metaphor.  Being willing to look at these and being willing to change.

Change the lens.    Have several different settings available.

Let's unlock the doors that can open to new vistas, to adventures only dreamed of!

When I clean my entire house I have to engage with all my belongings.   The basic areas of hoovering are fine - carpet.  This has to be done second to scoop up the dust of course.

Dusting

Dusting which I hate because I get hayfever and the dust is one of the main causes.   Rousing the dust does it - so I have to wear a mask for this part of operations.     Dusting focusses the mind - do I really love that yellow enamel bowl?   Does it spark joy?     Well if it does and there it is, then thats great.   However what can happen is that during a dust questions about whether you want to keep an item become clearer.

What to do when this happens

A session of dusting that might just take an hour is suddenly heading for the epic proportions.     So the trick with this is to notice what items don't spark joy and let them go immediately - but vow to take some time to go through  those which you are not sure about - perhaps your sentimental items again and see what you still love/what you want to let go of.  Dusting is not the time - but its a great nudge.

If you haven't done a tidying festival and gone through all the categories of material possessions and feel overwhelmed by the thought, then give me a call.  Doing a festival with another person is so much easier, fun at times, at other times exhausting - but ultimately incredibly freeing from the incumbrances that belongings can weigh us down with.    Many people lose weight after a sort - almost like they are now free to do this.   Two of my clients lost several stone as if by magic.

There is joy!

When the house is cleaned and dusted there is a joy about the fact that every corner has been loved and looks great.

Personally I feel that it is the best offering I can give guests - to spend time in the best version of my home.
